COMING PROJECTS
1. Complete the outfitting of the 6.4-inch replica Brooke Rifled Cannon.
We need to add the tracks that allowed the cannon to pivot from gun port to gun port, as well as the block and tackle used by the gun crew to move cannon. We also need to have on hand all the accoutrements used for loading and firing the Brooke Rifle.
2. Purchase a variety of replica shells for the Brooke Rifle.
The 6.4-inch cannon fired specially-crafted shells, as well as cannon balls, canister, and grapeshot. Our plan is to have replica samples of each to use in our educational efforts.
3. Manufacture replicas of the bags of coal and black powder used on the CSS Neuse.
We are fortunate to have members of our board with extensive knowledge of historical naval practices who can actually make the bags for the Foundation.
4. Acquire a period cook stove or replica and build a hearth in a galley.
As you can imagine, achieving these goals requires money. You can be sure the funding you provide will go to preserve, maintain, and complete the Neuse II with a focus on maintain historical accuracy.
Our goal is to provide a living museum that give a snapshot into the life of the 19th century Confederate sailor.
